Grandview University Announces Dean's list

Each semester Grand View University announces students to be named to the Dean's list and President's list for exceptional academic performance. Named to the Dean's list from Vinton, was Rachel Nugent. She was included in the Dean's list at Grandview University, while working on her degree in Nursing. To achieve the Dean s list, Grand View students must successfully complete a minimum of 12 graded semester hours of credit andearn no grade lower than a C during the semester, and earn an overall semester grade point average of 3.

'100 Days Smarter:' Tilford students mark milestone with parties, dress-up day

Tilford Elementary students and teachers celebrated the 100th day of school with a two-day event which included dressing as the children might imagine 100 years old to look like, as well as parties with 100 snacks. The students also had an assigment in which they had to place 100 items (candy pieces, stickers, crackers, etc.) within the 1 and to 0s that make "100.

Winter Fun at Shellsburg

Two different community events took place in Shellsburg on Friday, both at the elementary school. The Rec Dept. put on a spaghetti fund-raiser to raise money for fence and equipment for the youth baseball and softball teams, which play throuhout the area.

Area students Graduate from Allen College

Allen College awarded 89 degrees at its commencement ceremony on Friday, December 15 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Allen College conferred 14 Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degrees, 56 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees and 19 Master of Science of Nursing degrees. North Eden Willing Workers to meet February 4

The meeting of the North Eden Willing Workers was called to order at St. Mary's Catholic Church on January 7th, 2018. The meeting was called to order by Carli Lang at 5:06 p.m. Roll call was answered by 20 members. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given. Old business included skiing at Sundown and Christmas caroling.

Bethlehem Lutheran Sunday School class donates to shelter

From Friends of the Shelter, Inc. (FOTSI) It takes a community to make a difference and today Bethlehem Lutheran Sunday School did just that. With the help of Melanie Blais and Rachel Dickinson, these kiddos made, collected and brought goodies for cats to the shelter for their service project. Particular favorites include catnip-filled socks, as demonstrated by the Tabby named Spring.

VSHS student Diveley to travel to Europe with Iowa Ambassadors of Music; fund-raising continues

Vinton-Shellsburg High School band member Alexzondria (Lexi)Diveley is planning on spending part of her summer touring Europe with her bassoon as part of this year's contingent of Iowa Ambassadors of Music. She and other high school musicians from around Iowa will begin in Grinnell, and then spend two weeks touring several countries. They will be in London on July 4, and at the Dachau Concentration Camp on July 16.

Elwicks celebrate 79th anniversary

With cake, family and even some time around the table with a puzzle, Keith and Janet Elwick celebrated their 79th anniversary on Sunday at Windsor Manor. Married in January of 1939, Keith and Janet celebrated with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After spending his career manufacturing and selling farm equipment, Keith shared many of his memories in some books published a few years ago.

Clarke Announces Fall 2017 Dean's List
